This is all a miracle. This is all a nightmare.
This series explores my experience of motherhood and queer love after divorce, concurrent with global uprising and genocide. Each piece was created out of an acute awareness of how loss and grief can live so closely beside beauty and love, resistance and community. Both/and is a through-line in my work and asks us to unlearn while learning, name what pain exists while finding ways to heal, build a new world/life while the old one is dying. Last year's family calendar, painted with ink and acrylic, is my papercutting canvas that marks the passage of time in a year that held eruptions and changes, devastation, and liberation, personally and collectively.
