Commissions and Collaborations
My favorite way to work is in collaboration and across disciplines, whether I am putting illustration to words, or contributing to a local action or global movement that I believe in. Here are some of those commissions and submissions.
My books are open for collaborations and commissions.
Let’s talk!
The Artists’ Grief Deck
A response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The ARTISTS’ GRIEF DECK is a set of 60 medium format ‘flashcards’ that are individually designed by artists, sometimes in collaboration with grief workers. One side displays an original artwork, created by artists from around the world responding to our open call, and on the reverse is a ‘grieving prompt.’
Cover Art Commission
In 2021 Alice E. Ginsberg commissioned me to design the cover art for her book. With the title inspired by the work of Bell Hooks, Transgressing Teacher Education is a series of original strategies that teacher educators, teacher candidates and practicing teachers can use to think critically about issues of equity, diversity, opportunity, and social justice in urban education.
Poster Art Commission
In 2021 Philadelphia-based community arts organization SpiralQ commissioned a papercutting and digital art design for their 21st annual Peoplehood pageant and parade. The image illustrates the crises their community had faced over the previous years, including a devastating flood, celebrates their resilience, and honors what they’ve lost.
Fill the Walls with Hope
Based in Philadelphia, #FillTheWallsWithHope began in early March, 2020 in response to the growing number of boarded up businesses, emptiness, and fear that was spreading across the city. We asked artists and poets, "If you could fill the walls with your words and images, what would you share in this moment to support folks emotional/mental health, share resources, and help us all dream of a more just, creative, and beautiful future?" As dozens of submissions came in, they were printed and wheat pasted on blank walls and boarded up businesses.
